Building a Stronger Community Together

ABOUT SHERWOOD FOREST

Sherwood Forest was first incorporated in 1968. It is a very unique subdivision that is located within the Manzano Wilderness. It has approximately 411 lots with 254 property owners. It currently has 5 full-time residents. Prior to the Trigo Fire there were many cabins in the subdivision, many in the theme of Robin Hood, along with a full functioning park with a rocket slide and swings. There was a time, when the pond was the full and the stream ran most of the time. The last time a trout was seen in the pond was 1991. In 2008 when the Trigo Fire burned through Sherwood Forest, it was a crowning fire that took out trees, structures, homes and everything else in its path. In many parts of Sherwood Forest only the burnt pine trunks were left. Over time those trees fell down and have mostly been replaced by Oaks and Wilderness Rose Trees. In 2016, due to administrative short comings the New Mexico Secretary of State office revoked the non profit status of Sherwood Forest Improvement Association. In 2024, Bobby Lee Patton, the reigning secretary of Sherwood Forest passed away after living in Sherwood Forest for 30 years.
In 2025 a small group of property owners decided to re-incorporate Sherwood Forest which brought us to where we are today.

THE VISION

The mission of this current board is to re-build the community that was here before the fire, where families came up and bonded with each other.
By developing this website it will enhance the ability for owners to interact and be informed so that everyone has a voice and can participate. To improve the roads up enough so that everyone can reach their properties safely, so they can enjoy their investment. To restore the park so that families and groups can gather and escape the stress of the city. To restore Sherwood Forest as the ultimate, get away from the daily life and enjoy the mountains, the wildlife, and the fresh air.

OUR MISSION

Now that Sherwood Forest has re-established its status with the State, and a new Board of Directors has been elected, creating a vision of restoring Sherwood Forest as a family-oriented mountain get away that understands they are in a wilderness environment. Based on what property owners have voiced, the board of directors are focused on improving the roads to a point that will allow most vehicles can access their property. Because we have a very limited budget and these are the mountains, the roads will probably never be passenger cars safe, however, any standard SUV should be able to reach every property within the community. We are focused on bringing the community together so that every property owner has the opportunity to enjoy their property at their leisure.
The website will allow the membership to have access to information concerning on going and future projects and letting owners know how they can be a part of it all. The purpose of the chat room is to allow for open communication amongst the membership, so that when owners visit the community, they will know people should they choose to be social. We wish to improve communication between the Board and Membership which is the purpose of the email connection. Be sure to subscribe to the email list!
